Harnessing the Power of Community

These are some words we read the other day that stuck with us. It keeps ringing inside our head. How often do you embark on something new only to lose steam a few weeks or even days in? You had every intention of pushing through the beginner struggles but it just didn't happen. Going alone has its perks but never underestimate the power of community and its ability to lift you to new heights.

Think of a scenario when you decided to make a positive change. You approached the change head-on and everything was going smooth! You felt empowered! Then the wind in your sails started to calm and you slowly lost the drive you once had. You had every intention of making it a life long change but you couldn't keep it up. You quietly slip back into your old ways but wish you could find the motivation to start again.

It is common to think motivation is what drives you to do the things you do but this way of thinking is flawed. Motivation comes and goes and you can not rely on it alone. It is our actions that often determine our levels of motivation. By stacking one small action on top of another, you gain the motivation and momentum to accomplish our goals but what do you do when the motivation fades?

You may be wondering how your community plays into all of this so here is my attempt to paint a clear picture that nearly all of us can relate to. You just finished a long work week, you just got home and are ready to enjoy some downtime. You receive a text from your friend inviting you to the bar with a few others and you agree to join. This was not your plan for the night but a small nudge got you to join in. When at the bar, your friend buys a round for everyone at your table. This small action has started a chain of events where every person at the table now feels pressure to buy a round and your plan for a quiet night ends with you calling a taxi to get home safe. This is a prime example of action and motivation. The small action of your friend reaching out caused a chain of events and motivated you to let loose and enjoy yourself grew as these actions played out.

Community and friends are what keep us going and accountable. surrounding yourself with like-minded people that lift you up and share similar passions and goals are the ones you need to keep close. Creating a network of individuals who have your back can be the difference between breaking through and making lasting positive change in your life or putting your aspirations on the back burner never to be touched again. Having a group of people relying on you for support breeds support for yourself. This is what the foundation at Black Tusk is built on. We are a community of diverse individuals that all share the goal of improving our health. We are a close-knit group of accountability partners whom all come from a different background, and bring something different to the community. Everyone is at a different spot in their journey and we are going the distance together.

If you are looking to make positive changes in your life, health, and well-being, we invite you to join our community! Send us an email or book a call today!
