How Is Black Tusk Training Through COVID-19

Hello Everyone,

If you have been following along with the news surrounding COVID-19 (it's pretty hard not to these days), you will know that many cities, including Toronto, have now started closing down rec centers, schools, daycare centers and other facilities that gather large amounts of people. We are not ignorant to the fact that this very well may happen in Edmonton in the not-so-far future.

With this being said, we are trying to be as proactive as possible inside the Black Tusk walls, providing proper cleaning supplies, keeping our class sizes small, ensuring that we continue to educate everyone on proper precautions. In addition to this however, we have also put together a contingency plan for training, if you are immunocompromised/supressed, have elderly individuals you live in close proximity to or simply are not comfortable with training inside the studio.

General Procedures To Follow

  • First and foremost, do not come to the gym if you start to feel sick or show any symptoms of disease or feel under the weather

  • AHS has full guidelines to follow: https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/topics/Page16997.aspx

  • Wash your hands regularly with lots of soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Scrub vigorously. Avoid touching your face.

  • When you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth with a tissue or an elbow rather than a hand.

  • Clean off any equipment you’ve used and leave it sopping wet with the disinfectant. We’ll make sure potent disinfectant is on hand, along with paper towels.

Although we will remain open with our regular schedule until otherwise instructed by authorities, we do anticipate that some of our members may opt to reduce their activities and exposure to social settings, considering many larger scale facilities around us are commencing their temporary closures.

Black Tusk @home Program

As opposed to putting your membership on hold, we've developed an in-home program, which is aligned with the programming in-studio. Our intention and hope is for all our athletes to continue working out during this time, even if it is at home, stay strong and not lose what you've worked so hard for (read: your GAINZ). We've chosen to align the in-home programming as closely to the in-studio programming as possible, so that we can ensure you are still hitting up the same muscle groups and not atrophying. The programming will be offered on a separate track on SugarWOD and one of our coaches will be assigned specifically to you to correspond with, via either text or email. This is to ensure that you have a point of contact to provide you with guidance on the programming, whether that is intention or explanation of the work out, or if you have any questions regarding movement or modifications (scaling up or down)!

We all know that exercise keeps us healthy and active, which strengthens our immune system. Not working out is not the answer and this will bridge the gap between reservations of being in "unnecessary social settings" and the inability to continue training. Your coaches, as a team developed and recommend this because it is the best option, if being in a gym setting is not something you prepared to do. You can still get plenty strong, improve movement patterns and mobility with at home workouts.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate in reaching out to us!
