Don't Let Anyone Make You Feel Bad for Doing What You Love.

Life is an intricate balancing act. You are tugged and pulled in different directions by your family, friends, and colleagues and you understand the important role you play in their lives. But where do your needs and self-love fit into the puzzle?

How often do you look back on your day and think "Wow, I'm grateful I got to spend some time on myself today."? Do you ever feel selfish when you do spend time doing what you love for any reason? It is easy to say yes and do what is asked of you. It is easy to convince yourself that your needs should take a back seat for now and be a team player or fit the role that society has pressured you to fit. But how long are you going to try to squeeze into that role that may not fit you the way you'd like?

Great things rise from the ashes of following your heart and not allowing the voices of naysayers to pull you down. Black Tusk Athletics came to fruition in 2016 only after we started living our lives the way we wanted to live them. Before Black Tusk Athletics, we spent many years doing what we were "supposed" to do with our lives. We were living in Vancouver, using our university degrees and working high paying jobs. We were thriving financially but our current life status was not filling our cups and it was time to change our lives for the better.

This decision to reroute our lives and abandon our stable jobs to follow what we were truly passionate about was met with resistance from people who deeply cared about us but we had a choice to make.

Either we keep wearing ourselves down and taking our paycheque, or we take a chance to change our lives and follow our hearts. Although the right answer was difficult, it was blindingly obvious and we knew it was time to blaze a new trail and not look back.

When you don't take care of yourself, other areas of your life will suffer. Not providing the love for yourself that you truly need will wear you down and will affect your health, relationships, career, and not allow you to thrive as the person you want to be. By allowing yourself to enjoy the things you truly love to do and live the life you want for yourself, your life will naturally become filled with more positivity. By being the person you want to be, you will attract people that will build you up and be met with opportunities that fire you up. The days of dreading what is to come when your alarm goes off will become far and few between and be replaced with a great sense of purpose. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for doing what you love.

At Black Tusk Athletics, we live by this philosophy and understand how powerful it is to invest time for self-love. If you feel like you need a little more self-love in your life, we invite you to check out what we are all about!
